The Coastal Trail is located on Mt. Tamalpais in Marin County where it's grassy hills and smooth slopes overlook the Pacific Ocean. The setting of this painting is during the late afternoon when the long shadows stretch across the slopes and the last of the days light becomes filtered with a soft radiance. In the shade in between the ridges, you can look out and see the last stretch of day, knowing the trail will soon lead you back into the warmth of the sun.
