Late Summer Shadows
This print is from the original painting “Late Summer Shadows” which is a scene from Marin County looking across the hills to Mt. Tamalpais during the summer in the late afternoon. Painting this scene was a great joy in many ways because I love this view of this landscape. As the sun was making it’s descent towards the horizon, the shadows became more pronounced and the light throughout the hills started to illuminate the haze in the air causing a wonderful glow. The highlights of the trees became full of color as the ridgelines became more muted with a filtered blue hue as they receded in the background. I particular I enjoyed painting how the light danced across the ridges and having the foreground grasses on the edge of the shadow of the ridge.
