This is an area that's very special to me. I came across on it by accident one day while out on a hike and have gone back several times to paint it. For this painting, the day started out quite foggy and by the time I reached this area of the woods the fog had just started to lift and the sun came thru just enough to illuminate the bright green moss and filtered enough not to cast any shadows in the woods. The redwoods stand at the edge of this enchanted grove as if they are guarding this fragile landscape. Here, there is plenty of moisture from the seasonal fog for the mushrooms to grow and the red-belly newts to scurry across the forest floor. And if you look hard enough, you might even see a tree frog sitting on a rock trying to warm up in the sun.
